You have booked the perfect private pool villa. The date is set. The excitement is building. But then comes the stressful part: Packing.
There is nothing worse than arriving at a remote farmhouse in Al Dhaid or Ras Al Khaimah only to realize you forgot the charcoal for the BBQ or the floaties for the kids. Unlike hotels, many budget villas do not provide room service or toiletries.
To save you from a panic drive to the nearest grocery store (which might be 20km away), I have compiled the Ultimate 10-Item Staycation Checklist for families in the UAE.

1. The BBQ Survival Kit
Most private villas have a grill, but that’s it. You need to bring everything else. Do not rely on the villa to provide coal.
- Charcoal & Lighter Fluid: Buy these from a local supermarket beforehand to save money.
- Marinated Meat: Marinate your chicken/lamb at home the night before. It tastes better and costs 50% less than buying ready-made BBQ boxes.
- Skewers & Tongs: Essential tools that people often forget.
2. Modest Swimwear & Floaties
Even if it is a private pool, you might want to bring modest swimwear if you are with a large family group. Also, don’t forget inflatable tubes for the kids! Haven’t booked a villa yet? Check our list of 7 Private Pool Villas Under 800 AED.
3. Portable Bluetooth Speaker
What is a pool party without music? A waterproof Bluetooth speaker is a must-have. Just remember to keep the volume at a respectful level if there are neighbors nearby.
4. Insect Repellent & First Aid
Farmhouses in UAE (especially in winter) can have mosquitoes or flies. A simple spray can save your night. Also, pack a basic first aid kit with band-aids and painkillers, just in case.

5. Disposable Cutlery & Garbage Bags
Who wants to wash dishes on a holiday? Bring eco-friendly disposable plates, cups, and spoons. And most importantly, bring extra heavy-duty garbage bags. Leaving the villa clean ensures you get your security deposit back!
6. Power Banks & Extension Cords
Older farmhouses often have limited power outlets. Bringing a multi-plug extension cord ensures everyone can charge their phones simultaneously.
Final Pro Tip
Make a WhatsApp group with your friends/family and assign items to each person. This way, you don’t end up with 5 bags of charcoal and no chicken!
